An Ultrasound Brings Clarity

An ultrasound can answer key questions and identify concerns that may need medical attention.

CONFIRM THINGS LIKE:
  • How far along you are
  • Whether the pregnancy is developing in the correct location
  • Whether a heartbeat can be detected

At your first appointment, a nurse will talk with you and help determine if an ultrasound is recommended.

Not everyone will need or receive an ultrasound, and that’s okay. No matter what, you’ll still get answers, support, and a chance to talk through your situation.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT

Your Ultrasound Appointment

Plan to arrive about 15 minutes early for check-in. A support person is welcome, and the visit takes place in a private, comfortable setting.

Here is what the process usually looks like:

  • Check in and review your health history in a private room so there is space to share concerns and questions.
  • Receive a limited ultrasound to estimate gestational age and confirm the viability of pregnancy.
  • Talk through next steps, including your options and available resources.

Ultrasounds are performed by one of our nurse sonographers or an RDMS and reviewed by a local Ob/Gyn.

Most first ultrasound appointments last about 1 hour
