When You Need Answers, an Ultrasound Helps
Hope offers free, limited ultrasound to determine gestational age, detect a fetal heartbeat, and verify that the pregnancy is in the uterus.
-
Ultrasounds are performed by one of our nurse sonographers or an RDMS and reviewed by a local Ob/Gyn.
- Ultrasounds are provided in a private, confidential setting.
A Pregnancy Test appointment is required first before scheduling an ultrasound.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT
Your Ultrasound Appointment
Plan to arrive about 15 minutes early for check-in. A support person is welcome, and the visit takes place in a private, comfortable setting.
Here is what the process usually looks like:
- Check in and review your health history in a private room so there is space to share concerns and questions.
- Receive a limited ultrasound to estimate gestational age and confirm the viability of pregnancy.
- Talk through next steps, including your options and available resources.
Most first ultrasound appointments last about 1 hour
Questions related to Ultrasounds?
-
Can I schedule an ultrasound without a pregnancy test appointment?
No. An appointment verifying a pregnancy with our pregnancy test or a letter showing proof of pregnancy is required to establish you as a client before scheduling an ultrasound.
-
What does a limited ultrasound do or not do?
Limited Ultrasounds Often DO:
- Detect fetal heartbeat
- Determine the approximate due date
- Determine the number of fetuses
- Advise immediate medical attention at an emergency room if indicated
Limited Ultrasounds at HOPE do NOT:
- Determine the sex of the baby
- Diagnose fetal abnormalities
- Substitute for prenatal care

Why should I have an ultrasound at Hope?
We offer cost-free ultrasounds to determine whether the pregnancy is viable and the stage of fetal development. As a community-funded 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, HOPE does not financially benefit from your ultrasound or pregnancy decision. One additional benefit of an ultrasound in our center is that, because there is no charge, none of the procedures done in our center will show up on your insurance or be billed to your account.
Your ultrasound information is 100% confidential. We are here to advocate for you as you evaluate your options in a safe space.
Request a confidential appointment online, or call us. All after-hours requests will be contacted the following day of operations.
Please note that if you are experiencing health issues such as bleeding, spotting, or cramping, you should seek immediate medical attention. These could be symptoms of a spontaneous abortion or miscarriage, and you may require further medical treatment.
